I don't usually link to big-time bloggers everyone reads because, well, everyone reads them. But in this case Atrios says it best:
But one day I hope this country grows up and recognizes that the fear that maybe someone is getting something I'm not and they don't deserve shouldn't be the primary philosophy of governance.
Indeed. The pure selfish greed of right-wingers is to be hated, but can be understood. But the continuing voting against self-interest because that guy over there may be getting something I'm not is really a mental affliction. Sadly, one that is too common.
