Misunderstanding all you see

Last Tuesday night Rachel Maddow showed a list of hypocritical Republicans who voted against the Stimulus Bill, yet climbed all over themselves to get the money & take credit for it back home. Bobby Jindal, for example, gave out Publishers' Clearing House-sized checks with his own name at the bottom, trying to take credit for what he voted against & denounced at socialism. And acknowledged that the $$ were creating jobs.

I went on the YouTubes™ that night, and it seemed no one had that clip up yet, so using the awesome magical powers of Safari, I downloaded it, and put it back up at my YouTube page.

I didn't blog about it that night as I was damn tired by that point, and went to bed.

By the next day, many other people had posted the same clip; I was not alone. But by this evening my YouTube has been viewed 19,662 times, and has generated 123 comments.

Some commentors get it, others, well . . . some are geniuses:

We let almost anybody cross our state line here in Texas and sell health insurance policies.

Some of them sell for as little as $50-$100 per month.

But the catch is their policies are written so they seldom ever pay out even a dime...They are total scam artists.

Putting an actual face & name with facts hammers home the ideal of people running from rhetoric & facts in favor of hate

Faded & largely forgotten pop star George Harrison got a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame Tuesday:

Hundreds of George Harrison's biggest fans and best friends, including Paul McCartney and Tom Petty, turned out Tuesday to see a posthumous star for the quiet Beatle unveiled during a raucous celebration on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Fellow former Beatle McCartney stood next to Harrison's widow, Olivia, and son, Dhani, as the star was unveiled in front of the landmark Capitol Records building.

"Thank you very much!" he yelled to hundreds of screaming fans wearing Beatles T-shirts and holding signs, albums and flowers to honor Harrison.

While many who saw the ceremony were unaware of Harrison's musical contributions to pop and rock, some elderly passers-by recalled . . .

Seriously, WTF? While the band that sold more albums than God, who revolutionized the recording and music-buying world has their own star, Harrison become only the 2nd Beatle to be honored?

Might have been nice while he was STILL ALIVE!

Update: The blockquoted "article" above is a spoof of music journalism today, focused on Justin, L'il Wayne, and Britney, and tending to ignore some historical realities.

Just as we can't understand today's Republican party without knowing Goldwater and McCarthy, we can't understand today's music and recording without knowing The Beatles.

Economy sucks? Jobs lost? Health insurance gone with the wind? Happens to bloggers too.

Barbara at the Mahablog needs some bloggy love. She's a real OG blogger, started before most folks knew what a blog was, and continues to provide quality progressive ideas and viewpoints.

Help her out if you can. At least, offer some words of support.

And realize that just because someone has coded and built a slick website, that doesn't mean they are wealthy. That's the great equalizer of blogging: if you have the time, and the inclination, you can look like Daily Kos, or Huffington Post, all the while living out of your car and catching wireless internet access while parked outside Starbucks.

But web presence doesn't mean quality of content. If it did, Politico.com would be relevant. Redstate.org, would be credible. And Drudge would be believable.

Mahablog is relevant, credible, and believable. Worthy of support.
