The things you say... you're unbelievable

I'm not sure why I'm even bothering to mention this latest Limbaugh gutterism, but:

WASHINGTON (March 7) - A Democratic official rebuked conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh on Friday for suggesting a health care proposal will be named in memory of Sen. Edward Kennedy, who is battling brain cancer. On his radio show, Limbaugh said President Barack Obama's proposed health care revisions will be championed by "the liberal lion Teddy Kennedy."

"Before it's all over, it'll be called the Ted Kennedy Memorial Health Care bill," Limbaugh said.
Brian Wolff, executive director of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, called the remark outrageous and reprehensible.

Nice. But why should anyone even be surprised anymore by bad taste coming from the new GOP leader? Dittoheads pretend he is the voice of conservatism (and I guess he is for the far right wingnuts), but the truth is he is less a commentator than a high paid radio shock jock. And like all shock jocks, it's all about ratings and publicity. And Rush is reveling in the limelight he gets by saying stupid and offensive things. Put a few strippers on his show and he's not far off from the level of Howard Stern.

Yeah, I suppose by even posting this I'm giving Rush just what he wants. But by the same token, they say the best way to reveal cockroaches is to flip on the kitchen light. I think apart from the handful of hardcore dittoheads who live in the same uncompassionate, self-centered world as he does, the rest of America who actually would like to see our country rebuild and prosper and not "fail" just so some fat loudmouth can chortle "See, I told you so!" from his multi-million dollar mansion far above his audience who wouldn't share that advantage, the majority of Americans want this country fixed - by whatever means works - so EVERYONE, and not just the small handful like Rush who won't be hurt by it getting worse, can again afford housing and pay for healthcare.

It's easy for someone making hundreds of millions of dollars to say "everyone should pay for their own healthcare", but when it's skyrocketed to the point the average family in this economy can hardly afford it, that's not a statement that is based anywhere near reality. If universal healthcare isn't the answer, then what would the Republicans offer as an alternative? Frankly, I'm open to any plans. Bush in his 8 years certainly didn't do squat to deal with the problem. Then again, Bush pretty much ran with the "status quo" as being the solution to everything, that the market would take care of everything on its own, which is the same all-purpose plan multi-millionaires like Rush believe in, as well. Well, Rush, that sure didn't work, now did it?

Any other bright ideas? I mean, apart from taking potshots at a man seriously ill with brain cancer?

Late this afternoon, in keeping with apologies to Rush Limbaugh from Georgia Republican Phil Gingrey and RNC Chairman Michael Steele, Rep. Alan Grayson (D-FL) issued the following statement:

“I’m sorry Limbaugh called for harsh sentences for drug addicts while he was a drug addict. I’m also sorry that he’s bent on seeing America fail. And I’m sorry that Limbaugh is one sorry excuse for a human being.”

The Congressman then rejoined his Democratic colleagues in working on cleaning up George W. Bush’s mess.

With the withdrawal of Mitt Romney from the Republican race towards November, it brings to light the question regarding just how much pull the right-wing talking heads and evangelicals have on the Republican populace at large in terms of defining conservatism and what it means to the direction the nation wants to go in.

It's rather humorous to see the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity, who have been frothing at the mouth while banging the anti-McCain drum, see how little weight their opinions actually have in the voting booths around the country.

Maybe it’s a sign that the working class folks - of whom the hardcore conservatives have always taken for granted could be wooed over with the waving of flags and claiming Christian family values - may no longer be buying the “if you let us make the wealthy even wealthier, by God's grace it’ll trickle on down to you”. Kind of hard to swallow that lie after almost 8 years of George Bush and the mess he's caused.

I'm hardly a fan of John McCain, but it is quite interesting to see the dittohead/bible-thumping portion of the right find out that they don't have quite the connection with the people of their party as they seemed to think they had. It's too early to tell where this is all leading, but it's certainly worth a chuckle hearing the talk radio rightwing-nuts doing damage control as they attempt to act like they still matter.

Oh, my little soldier boy, I'll be true to you

Gen. Wesley Clark says Rush has got to go:

Last week, Rush Limbaugh labeled any American soldier who supports an end to the war in Iraq as "phony." We challenged Limbaugh through an email campaign to invite VoteVets.org's Jon Soltz to his show and repeat these same insults to an Iraq war veteran's face. Over 10,000 of you responded and emailed Rush -- but to our disappointment, he has refused to respond to our request.

It's time to put real pressure on Rush Limbaugh. His show is broadcast on Armed Forces Radio, and this time we are going to go straight to the lifeblood of Rush's show -- Congress. Congress has the power to remove Rush Limbaugh from Armed Forces Radio, and it won't be as easy for elected officials to ignore our call.

Yep. He's just another phony soldier, in the eyes of the Right.

Speaking of the Right, this is just too funny:

First of all, I would say to my lefty friends that anyone who tries to draw some kind of equivalence with Rush Limbaugh referring to anti-war military people as “phony soldiers” and Moveon’s “Betray-us” ad is an idiot.

There is no comparison between the two. None. To make a comparison, is to stretch the point to breaking – a sure sign that any equivalence is manufactured out of whole cloth.

Having said that, Limbaugh is a goose for saying it. And he owes an apology not just to anti-war military people (and ex-military) but to the entirety of the United States Armed Forces.

. . . I think what happened is that Limbaugh realized the hot water he was in and tried to backtrack later. He wouldn’t be the first radio host who tried the tactic and he won’t be the last.

Of course I agree that Media Matters blew this thing way out proportion and tried to massage the remarks into an example of equivalency with the Petreaus Moveon ad. As I mentioned, there is zero equivalence between the two. None. Zilch. The remark is bad enough standing on its own. We don’t need some kind of childish “gotchya” game that the left never tires of playing in order to see what needs to be done; Limbaugh apologizing.

Yeah, the left never tires of "gotchya" (sic) games. And the Right never does it.
