I've been a martyr for love

(Graphic created by darkblack. Thanks!)

I hereby announce the first post-Scooter Libby conviction Golden Douchebag Award to Pat Buchanan, who writes at Clownhall:

Martyr of the War Party

By Patrick J. Buchanan

The conviction of Scooter Libby on four counts of perjury and obstruction of justice is first of all a human tragedy.

The rest is up at HuffPo here.

Meanwhile, a righty commenter at Backroom (invitation only, sorry) says this:
...why anybody gave Scooter Libby, who was a mob lawyer for notorious organized criminal Marc Rich on and off during 1985-2000, an important position in the federal government, and why nobody else thought it was odd either? Being a mob lawyer is a lucrative career, but it normally precludes you from positions of trust and honor in government. Granted, the mayor of Las Vegas is a mob lawyer, but that's pretty much the exception that proves the rule. Why is representing John Gotti disqualifying, but not Marc Rich?

To which I reply:
"Notorious organized criminal" Rich was indicted by Rudy Giuliani for tax evasion resulting from trading with Iran, a practice carried on by many on the Right with no penalties yet for them. Not a good guy, likely an avaricious bastard, but hardly John Gotti.

Clinton pardoned him largely because Ehud Barak wrote a letter pleading for him to, and you can't piss off Israel of you're a politician, Dem or Repub.

And he replies:

Bust them both. Rich was probably far more destructive.

Clinton pardoned him largely because Ehud Barak wrote a letter pleading for him to, and you can't piss off Israel of you're a politician, Dem or Repub.

Then he should have had the class to pardon him BEFORE the election.

The Constitution should be amended to strip the President of the power of pardon the Friday night before election Tuesday. I don't give a shit if it's a Dem or GOP President. Let them fade the political heat.

We piss Israel off all the time, but not enough. They are under the bizarre notion Pollard should be freed. If I were President I would make the Israeli PM get on his knees and BEG forgiveness for the USS Liberty like King Hussein of Jordan did when his border guard went nuts and shot kids across the border into Israel. I do not hate Israel per se but they sure as hell need to understand they are a big pain in the ass and NOT entitled to be treated as God's Special People.

I consider both parties equally rotten to the core, although the Dems are somewhat more dangerous to the general body politic. Bush II is sure working hard to beat them though.

The only pols I have somewhat more respect for are the party mavericks like Ron Paul and James Webb, along with Bernie Sanders, who is at least upfront about his economic ideas. Bill Clinton and GW Bush are, by my standards, more or less the same.

Hillary, however, is in a league of her own. She's what the late Steve irwin would have called " A beautiful Ambush Predator!" (Although very certainly not "beautiful" except maybe to space aliens with exceptionally bad taste.)

Clearly, a mind is a terrible thing to waste.
